SWS Computer Software Information
This sheet provides you with a summary of what each program does and instructions on how to use them. SWS installs the listed programs on new PCs, Operating System reinstall services and some services that require cleanups. Please read over and familiarize yourself with these great freeware programs.

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool from Piriform. It removes unused files from your system, allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. Additionally, it contains a fully featured registry cleaner. Try to scan
daily or every other day.
- Launch and click Analyze for an itemized listing of the files CCleaner recommends removing. Then select Run Cleaner to proceed with deletion of the selected items.
- After cleaning, Scan for Issues in the Registry tab on the left and always fix all issues, no backup necessary. We re-run registry scan until no errors are found.
- CCleaner should be run before virus and spyware scans by other programs listed.

Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE)
is a new, free utility from Microsoft which provides a fundamental safeguard against viruses & malware. The direct successor to Windows Defender, MSE can help prevent infections and security compromises with a simple, streamlined interface.
- MSE will automatically check for database updates daily, with a weekly scan at 2:00AM; the scan schedule can be adjusted through the Setting menu. Large, non-critical updates will be released on a monthly basis through Windows Update.
- You can scan manually through the Home menu. Quick and Full Scans will check your entire system with appropriate degrees of thoroughness, while Custom Scan allows you to scan specific folders or files.

Defraggler is a freeware Hard Drive defragmentation tool from Piriform. It differs from other defrag tools on the market by enabling you to quickly and simply defrag the files you want to without having to process the whole drive. Simply run it, select the file and defragment in seconds. No more struggling with the Windows defragmentation tool!
- Always run CCleaner before Defraggler. This will delete useless files that don't need defragmentation and will make Defraggler run more quickly.
- Make sure you have correct disk selected on top. Click analyze, then Defrag. XP defrags fairly quickly but Vista and Windows 7 can take significantly more time. We recommend running Defraggler overnight for Vista/Win7 PCs. Always run Defraggler by itself.

Super Anti-Spyware is another free utility which is used
to combat spyware. Unlike Malware Bytes, SAS will run
at startup. It will run in the background and offers
real-time protection. It should be checked occasionally to see that it is up to date. Also, infrequently manually scanning
is a good idea.

IMGBRUN is a low resource fast loading application that allows burning of CDs and DVDs. IT supports burning individual files or folders and whole disk images. It also supports making images of CDs and DVDs. Also included are some advanced options not included in Windows 7’s native burning support. It is updated frequently and is very user friendly.

K-Lite is a software package with a robust suite of video and audio playback applications.
- K-Lite includes an MPEG-2 decoder for DVD playback. Also comes with Media Player Classic Home Cinema, which is a great lightweight video playback program.
- K-Lite contains everything you need to play all popular video file formats. Just launch the file and let K-Lite do the rest.

Malwarebytes is a freeware spyware / malware removal utility. Malwarebytes has developed a variety of tools that can identify and remove malicious software from your computer. When your computer becomes infected, Malwarebytes can provide the needed assistance to remove the infection and restore the machine back to optimal performance.
- Before you run a quick or full scan, always update Malwarebytes. It doesn't update automatically. Click the Update tab, and then Check for Updates. Make sure to always update the application before scanning.
- After updating go back to scanner and quick scan. If any items are found, click show results and delete all items. Sometimes you must restart. Always scan with all other apps closed, will run faster and makes restarting easier if necessary. Full scans can take a long time like AVG, so run them overnight. Quick scan will usually find any and all problems.
